Why major in CS?
I've always loved math. When it was time for college, I decided to apply to the College of Engineering at Bucknell because it would give me the opportunity to use math to solve problems. After learning about all the engineering disciplines in ENGR100, I decided to pursue a degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
Why did you choose Bucknell?
Of course Bucknell has a beautiful campus and is well know for its academics. But also, during my visit to campus in my junior year of high school, I felt a strong sense of community and enjoyed the personal interaction with faculty, staff, and students. I could see myself at Bucknell for the next four years.
Favorite class projects
During CSCI 204, I created a version of Spider Solitaire. Later, in an upper-level computer science elective course (CSCI 362), I wrote a program to encipher and decipher text messages while studying cryptology.
Plans for the future
Next year I will be working at Lockheed Martin as an Associate Member, Engineering Staff in their Engineering Leadership Development Program. This program will allow me to attend graduate school while I work. I plan to earn a Masters in Computer Science or Systems Engineering.
Advice for incoming students
Take the time to visit campus and talk to current students. Consider what academic offerings your are looking for and get a feel for whether or not the campus culture is right for you.
