Why major in Computer Science?

Computer Science formalizes our imperative knowledge of "how to" do things just as mathematics allows us reason precisely about what abstract structures and properties exist. You get to take part in a revolution in how humans can and do express their thoughts (and consequently what those thoughts are). If that sounds lame you also get to play with cool toys.

How did you select your degree program in CS?

I never really had in my mind a sharp distinction between disciplines. Sure apples and oranges are different, but do you know anyone who likes oranges but not apples? Bucknell has a program allowing students to study an Engineering discipline along side another major and this became a natural fit for me.

Advice for incoming students

Learn at least one new programming language a year, preferably one that is radically different from everything else you know. Use said language to build cool things.
