Jen Bowers
BS in Computer Science and Engineering
Why did you choose to major in Computer Science?
I chose CS because I have always been fascinated with computers especially computer graphics and animation. I chose CS in the engineering department because ever since I can remember I have loved designing things, building things, solving puzzles, and anything else having to do with engineering.
Why did you choose Bucknell?
I love everything about Bucknell and knew the minute I visited that this was the place I wanted to spend the next four years of my life. I love the campus and thought that was what a college campus was supposed to look and feel like. I loved the environment and how friendly it is. The academic life was perfect as well. The student/faculty ratio is ideal and the academic curriculum is amazing. I also loved the fact that I am able to take additional courses outside of my major including art and humanities course. I was looking for a school that would challenge me through traditional Engineering courses and allow me the room to continue to develop my creative, artistic side. Bucknell is the place I can accomplish this.
Activities
Society for Women Engineers (SWE), Association of Computer Machinery (ACM), Humanities Residential College, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, Concert Chorale, Volunteer for Admissions Office hosting prospective students, Musical Theatre Club, and Spokesperson on the Humanities Residential College website.
Plans for the future
My goal is to work as an Imagineer, that is, an employee of the Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) division of The Walt Disney Company. Ever since I was three years old, when my parents took me to Disney World, I have been fascinated by what happens behind the scenes at the Disney Theme Parks. I decided that a major that allows me to study Computer Science, Engineering and Art will help attain this dream. A job in Imagineering, along with other career options such as computer science, where I could design programs for Pixar Animation Studios, would be a great fit for me.
