Why Bucknell?"I wanted the attention a small college could provide, yet I wanted a school with large opportunities. I was interested in running cross-country and track, and Bucknell is Division I with a great program and reputation. There's another reason I looked at Bucknell: My high school advanced placement calculus teacher (Gary Dennis 'M95) attended Bucknell for grad school recommended it to me. He was taught by the same professor I have now.
"I came for an overnight visit, which was a great way to see the campus and get a feel for what an actual day at Bucknell would be like. I even went to a class with Howard Smith (professor of mathematics) and it was a cool scene, going to a class and understanding what was going on." Numbers and language"I'm a double major -- mathematics and Spanish. I've been taking a few management courses in accounting, too. I'm interested in the finance network and, eventually, I hope to be a financial analyst. I believe that with expanding markets and the globalization of the economy, it will never hurt to know another language. It's almost essential. That's why I have kept going with Spanish. It's a great tool." Pushing limits, serving the community"I run cross-country in the fall, indoor track during the winter, and outdoor track in the spring. My teammates are a nice family to have. Not only do we run and compete together, we work together and we encourage each other inside and outside the classroom and on and off the track. We're always pushing each other and our limits. "There is no off-season for us. We're always in season. There's always a practice to go to, so one of the things I’ve learned is time management. But I’m doing what I love. For me, competing and being on the track and cross-country team is a stress release. "Besides class and track, I’m vice president of the environmental club because I'm really interested in and passionate about increasing environmental awareness on campus. I work as a recycling monitor and meet with the facilities supervisor once a month to discuss how to increase recycling or how to make recycling policies more effective. On weekends, the other thing I do is volunteer at various animal shelters, such as Mostly Mutts in Sunbury. There we rake out dog cages and walk dogs. It's quite a task because some of the dogs are so energetic we need two people to walk one dog. It's part of my volunteering in the community."
