Porochista Khakpour (M.A. Johns Hopkins University) is a Visiting Assistant Professor who teaches Creative Writing (Fiction). Her interests include Middle Eastern identity and American pop culture, as well as contemporary American literature, international experimental literature, and California fiction. She has been the recipient of writing fellowships from Johns Hopkins University (fiction), and Northwestern University (journalism). Her critically acclaimed debut novel, Sons and Other Flammable Objects (Grove/Atlantic, 2007), won the 2007 California Book Award "First Fiction" meda; it was also a New York Times "Editor's Choice" and Chicago Tribune "Fall's Best" selection. She is working on a second novel and a short story collection. |
