Bucknell University is a safe and secure environment for learning and living. Over the last several years, Bucknell University has been challenged to strengthen the safety and security of the campus community, while also preserving the tradition of an open and accessible learning and research environment. To enhance campus safety, all perimeter residence hall and critical infrastructure doors are now electronically controlled. The control system will allow automatic and locking and unlocking of doors and intrusion alarms. All doors alarms are monitored by the Department of Public Safety.

New BU ID cards were issued to all faculty, staff and students for the 2008 – 2009 academic year. These new cards will allow faculty, staff and students access to the buildings using card readers located outside main entrances to each residence hall.

Your BU ID card is your official Bucknell University identification card and provides you with privileges for multiple campus services, including access to the residence halls. It should be kept with you at all times. The Card Services Office, part of the Office of Housing and Residential Life, is responsible for controlling those privileges while fostering education and community in the students’ residential experience.
