Film/Media Studies

Today visual media has become a vernacular of contemporary society and it is critical for students to understand how to read and write in with images, sound, and text.
The Film/Media Studies major is one of three majors offered in the English Department (along with Literary Studies and Creative Writing). The major applies traditional literary practices of close reading and critical thinking to the realm of film and media.
Students learn about film and media practices through historical study of American and world cinema, theoretical analysis, and creative, hands-on production.
