Roger Rothman
Art & Art History
Roger Rothman has taught art history in the Department of Art and Art History at Bucknell University since 2003. He received a B.A. from Princeton University, an M.F.A. from Hunter College, and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Prior to teaching at Bucknell, Professor Rothman taught at Agnes Scott College, Sarah Lawrence College, the School of Visual Arts, and the Parsons School of Design.
Professor Rothman’s courses cover modern and contemporary art from the nineteenth century to the present. As a Senior Fellow in the Arts Residential College, he has taught a foundation seminar on the art of Marcel Duchamp and other avant-garde artists of the early twentieth century.
Professor Rothman’s scholarship focuses on European artists of the early twentieth century. He has published articles on Cubism, Dadaism, and Surrealism in such journals as Modernism/Modernity; The Space Between; French Cultural Studies; Word & Image; The Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism. He has also contributed to a recent publication from Routledge Press, Modernism and Theory. He is currently completing a book-length study reevaluating the paintings and writings of Salvador Dalí.
Professor Rothman currently serves as the co-president of The Space Between Society: Literature and Culture, 1914-1945, an interdisciplinary association devoted to the cultural practice and its reception in the years between the two world wars.
