Music Classes at Bucknell

Students gain a firm understanding of music fundamentals while exploring their unique interests under the direction of exceptional faculty.  The addition of four new faculty members brings expanded course offerings in ethnomusicology and jazz to the curriculum.

With new Jazz & Theory faculty member Barry Long as well as a Jazz Artist-in-Residence, students are exposed to the process of making jazz, from theory and lessons with masters to lectures, behind-the-scenes rehearsals, and performances.

The Kushell Music Endowment allows the department to bring nationally-recognized artists for residencies that include class visits, one-on-one and chamber ensemble instruction.  This semester alone, students have enjoyed workshops in middle eastern music with Bassam Saba (an expert who has performed with Paul Simon, Yo Yo Ma, and Alicia Keys), the early music ensemble Cascata, and singer and actor Curt Branom.
