LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell University students will be able to track online the availability of campus washers and driers and pay for their use with BU IDs when a new coinless laundry system launches Monday, Jan. 26.

Expanding on a list of campus services that can be accessed or purchased using the official Bucknell identification card, Bucknell is now also introducing an online payment system that will allow students and their families to make electronic payments to their billing accounts as well as add funds to both Campus Dollars and Dining Dollars. (See FAQs.)

The BU ID is a multipurpose card that may be used for a variety of campus services including library borrowing, bookstore purchases, dining, copying, entrance to athletics events, campus box office purchases, and now laundry. The card also serves as personal identification and allows entry to residential and other campus buildings.

Coinless laundry
Using the card, students will be able to pay for laundry at any of the campus laundry facilities, saving the need for coins.

The new service includes LaundryView, a website that displays the status of every laundry machine on campus. The system shows the amount of time remaining in the cycle for machines that are in use and allows students to reserve machines and receive text-message alerts when they become available.

Dining Dollars, an integral component of the University meal plans, may be used instead of cash at any campus dining location. These dollars cannot be used for laundry or any other purpose. They are not refundable or transferrable but carry over from semester to semester and year to year. Balances remaining after graduation or separation from the University are not refunded.

Dining Dollars
Students may add Dining Dollars to their accounts using the online payment system or by paying with cash, check or charge at the Bucknell University Dining Office, the Bison, or the Finance Office in Marts Hall.

All students residing in University housing are required to purchase a meal plan. This process has not changed.

Campus Dollars
The new Campus Dollars are a prepaid flexible spending account that serves as an alternative to cash or checks. These dollars may be used for dining, laundry and other campus purchases. Students may add Campus Dollars to their accounts using the online payment system or with cash or check at the Card Services Office in the ELC or the Finance Office in Marts Hall.

Unlike Dining Dollars, students may not charge the purchase of Campus Dollars to student billing accounts, but any remaining balance on Campus Dollars will be refunded to billing accounts upon graduation or separation.

Charging privileges
BU ID card-holders may charge expenses to their billing accounts at multiple locations across campus. Students, faculty and staff have privileges to charge at the Bookstore, the Campus Box Office, Administrative Services, the craft room and many other venues.

The BU ID also is used for entry to all residential buildings (except for housing at Bucknell West) and a few academic areas with protected equipment. Using the BU ID, students are able to enter their own residence hall at any time. Students, faculty and staff may enter other buildings as needed during normal business hours.

The Card Services Office, which is part of the Office of Housing and Residential Life, is responsible for the creation and distribution of the BU ID. For more information, visit Card Services.
