Sustainability Seminar 2007

The Institute for Sustainable Buildings is a learning environment for design, construction, and operation of buildings focusing on sustainable energy use and environmental impact. The institute enabled knowledge acquisition and establish a physical test-bed for evaluating the performance of green building technologies. The participants included the building industry, Bucknell University students, faculty, and staff, and other educational institutions.

Over 95 people attended the sustainability workshop on July 18 at Bucknell University to learn and explore the topic of green building.  The workshop was hosted by the College of Engineering and the SmallBusinessDevelopmentCenter and had participants from 26 Pennsylvania businesses related to the building industry.  It included presentations from invited speakers, a panel discussion, an open forum, and vendor exhibits.  Featured presenters came from Bucknell, Penn State, Pennsylvania College of Technology, PP&L, SEDA-COG, as well as architectural and consulting firms.

This seminar and workshop explored current principles and practices for sustainability in building design, construction and operation. The open forum solicited ideas for an experimental "test-bed" at Bucknell for evaluation of sustainable building technologies and practices.  The workshop facilitated discussion among potential providers, implementers and users of sustainable buildings in Pennsylvania.
