The Bucknell men's lacrosse squad, ranked No. 12 nationally after a record-setting 2011 campaign, kicks off the 2012 season on Saturday at home against No. 19 Delaware. The Bucknell wrestling team will close its 2011-12 regular season with a pair of dual matches this weekend. On Friday, the Bison will make the short trip to Lock Haven for a 7 p.m. match with the Bald Eagles. On Sunday, Bucknell will host Penn in a noon match inside Davis Gym, the final competition for the Bison until the EIWA Championships the first weekend in March.
The Bucknell Women's Basketball program held its annual alumni game as part of alumni weekend on Saturday, January 28. While the overall participation numbers may have been down, everyone who returned to campus had a great time and the current team enjoyed the opportunity to discuss career choices and networking with the alumni in attendance.
Powered by 16 points from Rachel Voss and 16 rebounds from Lindsay Horbatuck, Bucknell women's basketball snapped a 13-game losing streak with a 67-45 victory over Colgate at Sojka Pavilion on Wednesday night. The win was the first of the Patriot League campaign for the Bison (3-21, 1-8 PL), which grabbed a season-high 58 boards and dished out 22 assists in what was perhaps their best performance of the season.
Bryan Cohen scored 12 points and Bucknell overcame a rare cold shooting night with some terrific defense en route to a 66-50 win at Colgate on Wednesday night at Cotterell Court. The Bison sailed to their 11th straight win and 19th in a row in conference play, but most importantly they improved to 9-0 in the Patriot League and maintained a two-game lead in the standings.
The Bucknell and Lafayette athletics departments have announced that Saturday night's men's basketball game will be televised live free of charge on the internet on ESPN3 and as part of ESPN Full Court pay-per-view television package available nationally. The game can also be seen on RCN television cable systems throughout the country and on WBPH-60 in all of Eastern Pennsylvania.
The Orange team rallied back from a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat the Blue squad, 68-65, in the annual men's basketball alumni game held in Sojka Pavilion on Saturday, February 4. Stephen Tyree '11 led a balanced second half attack with nine points, three assists, a pair of blocks and the game's only dunk in the final stanza.
Bucknell claimed four of the nine bouts contested, but Army tallied two pins and earned a forfeit at heavyweight as the Bison lost by a 27-12 score to the Black Knights Tuesday evening at Gillis Field House. Austin Miller (125), Derrik Russell (141), Corey Lear (165) and Stephen McPeek (174) posted victories for Bucknell.
With the warmer spring weather comes a pair of Bucknell field hockey has a pair of camps. The Bison will hosts a clinic and 7v7 Tournament on April 14, open to players 12 to 18 years old. A summer camp is also scheduled for July 17-20.
A busy week for the Bucknell wrestling team continues Tuesday when the Bison travel to West Point, N.Y., to take on EIWA opponent Army. The match will begin at 7 p.m. at Gillis Field House. It will be the final home match of the year for the Black Knights, who will celebrate Senior Night.
Bucknell track and field's Tom Barr set his second record in three days as he was named the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week for the fifth time on Monday, more than any other athlete in league history. The honor comes just days after Barr posted the top shot put mark in Bison history. Helping Bucknell to complete the Patriot League awards sweep was Track Athlete of the Week Jordan Donaldson and Rookie of the Week Alex Jagelsky.
