Black Student Union/BSU

Advisor:  James Peterson, jpb016@bucknell.edu, Jessica Hess, jah018@bucknell.edu

Description:  Whereas the existing organizations of color see the need to eliminate separation, the BSU shall henceforth operate as the principal body of organizations whose mission is to acknowledge the fruitfulness of the black Diaspora.  Furthermore, the BSU aims to provide and maintain the best possible conditions in which Black students may receive a complete education.  The BSU strives to:

* Work towards the unification of Black students within their own community as well as the Bucknell community.

* Promote Black awareness through cultural activities such as the annual Kwanzaa celebration, Black History Month, lectures, films, and other events.

* Sensitize the administrators, faculty, staff, students, and community of the need for a relevant Black Studies Program.

* Acquire, maintain, and enhance the presence of all diverse populations at Bucknell University.

* Archive the history of Black life at Bucknell University by actively working to maintain and retain archival files relative to the Black Diaspora.

* Communicate all current events, incidents, and ideas of BSU students to the Black Alumni Association.

* Communicate and collaborate with the office of Multicultural Student Services in order to plan trips, attend conferences, and provide scholarship and grant information to members of the BSU.
