Department and Program Learning Objectives

Majors in Chemistry (BS Program) will be able to:

Understand the traditional core of chemistry (organic, inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry) and demonstrate the ability to apply this knowledge at an advanced level. (1,4,6,9)

Demonstrate a working knowledge of at least one or two new or specialty areas of chemistry (for example, biochemistry, environmental chemistry, organometallic chemistry, polymers) and/or a deeper knowledge of the traditional core areas and/or proficiency in research. (1,4,6,8,9)

Apply quantitative or qualitative theories of molecular behavior to a broad variety of chemical problems. (1,4,6,9)

Competently perform a broad variety of analytical and synthetic procedures and critically evaluate the results. (1,4,6)

Skillfully utilize the chemical literature. (1,4,6,8)
