International Student Orientation

Arrival & Orientation

Students admitted to Bucknell University are invited to a three-day orientation program designed to welcome you to campus and to meet your specific needs as international students. This program will include students on U.S. visas, permanent residents, U.S. citizens abroad, and dual citizens. Each year about 70 students attend International Student Orientation.

For the academic year 2009-10 admitted students may arrive either on Sunday, August 16th or Monday, August 17th. International Student Orientation will formally begin on Monday, August 17th in the evening and conclude on Thursday, August 20th.  New Student Orientation, which includes the entire Class of 2013, will begin on Friday, August 21st.

The purpose of International Student Orientation is to give incoming international students an opportunity to settle in and explore the campus prior to New Student Orientation. It is mandatory for any student on a U.S. visa to attend. You will have the opportunity to complete your immigration registration, open a bank account, receive your medical history clearance, and meet academic deans, faculty, the health insurance administrator, and public safety director, among others. It is also a time to socialize with other new students, as the program includes events such as movies, games, shopping, bowling and skit night. The program begins with a breakfast reception with faculty, staff, and administration, and each year it is a tradition to spend the last night of the program on a river boat cruise. The program is sponsored by International Student Services, with the financial support of New Student Orientation, and is run by enthusiastic upper-class students who welcome you to Bucknell and maintain their relationship with you throughout the first year. This exciting program is sure to serve as a firm basis for your future years as Bucknell.
