Health Insurance
Students on a US visa are required by the University to purchase health insurance.
Medical coverage here is extremely expensive and carrying medical insurance is very important, especially in the case of a serious illness and/or accident. For this reason Bucknell has carefully chosen a plan that meets the needs of international students while they are studying at Bucknell which is called the Blanket Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan. It is underwritten by the MEGA Life and Health Insurance Company in St. Petersburg, Florida and is administered by Hulse Associates, Inc of Mechanicsburg, PA.
You can expect to receive a bill for this plan along with your statement. While domestic students have the option of waiving the Bucknell insurance for one their family already carries, international students do not have permission to use any other plan other than the Bucknell plan. U.S. students living abroad are strongly encouraged to consider buying the Bucknell Insurance. Lewisburg is serviced by a local hospital, Evangelical Community Hospital, and may not be familiar with insurance policies that are not local.
For the 2011-2012 academic year the estimated cost is $1,600.00 (subject to change). During International Student Orientation you will get to meet Carmen Terry who will explain how insurance is used in the United States.
