LEWISBURG, Pa – For the first time in Bucknell history, the Annual Fund is positioned to surpass $10 million in cash gifts to the University. || Giving form
With just two weeks left in the fiscal year, Annual Fund cash gifts total $9.3 million, compared to $8.7 million at the same time last year, an increase of 7 percent.
The fact that Bucknell has continued to receive strong donor support in the current slow economy is a notable accomplishment, said Sam Lundquist, vice president for development and alumni relations.
“At a time when many universities are struggling with declining donations, simply maintaining previous years’ fundraising is considered an achievement,” Lundquist said. “So it is significant that Bucknell’s alumni, families and friends have actually increased their Annual Fund support. They are prioritizing Bucknell in their philanthropy, which speaks very highly of their loyalty to the University and commitment to its continued excellence. We are grateful for their generosity.”
Alumni participation, a key indicator of University support, remains steady. More than 13,500 alumni have made gifts to the 2009 Annual Fund. Only 1,500 more alumni are needed to reach the participation goal of 15,000.
“We invited alumni all over the world to make a difference in 2009, and they responded,” said Josh Grill, director of the Annual Fund. “More Bucknellians, particularly recent graduates, are becoming aware that gifts of all sizes have a direct impact on students.”
The 2009 Annual Fund “Make a Difference” program encourages alumni to consider the difference Bucknell made in their lives, and invites them to make a difference for current and future Bucknell students by making a gift. Donors were offered the opportunity to share their own Bucknell story. An interactive global map illustrates Bucknell’s worldwide impact.
The Annual Fund benefits all aspects of the University, including academics, student life and need-based scholarships. The 2009 Annual Fund goal is $10.6 million.
