Special Programs
Special ProgramsResidential Colleges First-year students have the opportunity to live with a group that shares the same interest -- arts, environmental, global, humanities, social justice, or society and technology -- encouraging an exchange of ideas both in the residence halls and in the classroom. The Writing Program Bucknell helps students develop strong writing skills through an introductory seminar and two other writing courses. Students select the courses from many departments and programs. Undergraduate Research Bucknell gives students diverse opportunities during their four years to engage in undergraduate research or independent study with a faculty member. The Interdepartmental Major and College Major Programs permit students to design their own majors. Students are assisted by a faculty committee, which also supervises a senior project. Study Abroad (International Education) Bucknell can serve as your departure point for study throughout the world. About 40 percent of our students opt for a semester or a year abroad. Honors Program Many academic departments and university programs offer the opportunity for departmental honors for students majoring in those areas. Typical honors programs involve independent study under the supervision of an adviser, the completion of an honors thesis or creative project, and an oral examination by a faculty committee. Some departments require participation in special honors seminars. Institute for Leadership During Bucknell's unique Institute for Leadership in Technology and Management, held in the summer, engineering students learn how to become managers and management students discover the role of technology in society.
