Rick Benjamin's PARAGON RAGTIME ORCHESTRA
The world's most active exponent of vintage American popular music has had notable engagements including the inaugural season of Philadelphia's Kimmel Center; the Ravinia Festival; Brucknerhaus in Linz, Austria; and all around New York. Selected to be America's "Ambassador of Goodwill" at the World's Fair in Spain, the PRO has performed on NPR and the BBC as well. Varied repertory, aside from the expected syncopated rags, runs from Blues to waltzes and skips from parodies and novelties to marches and popular songs of the era. Discs on the Rialto and New World labels include George M. Cohan - You're a Grand Old Rag, From the Barrelhouse to Broadway featuring the music of African-American pop composer Joe Jordan, and The Paragon Ragtime Orchestra Finally Plays "The Entertainer" featuring the best-known rags of Scott Joplin and other classic ragtime composers.
