Residential Colleges
Residential Colleges — Adding to Classroom Learning The Residential College program combines classroom learning with outside activities. Each of the six colleges — arts, environment, global, humanities, social justice, and society and technology — offers one or more Foundation Seminars that are associated with the college. You’ll live on a hall with other members of your college who share similar interests. You'll join in programs and social activities that add to your classroom learning. Nearly one-third of the first-year class enrolls in the Residential Colleges. There's always something happening in the colleges, but you'll also have plenty of time to be involved outside the colleges in the whole range of activities open to students at Bucknell, from team sports to artistic performances, and volunteer activities. Each college has two faculty members, called Senior Fellows, who teach the Foundation Seminars and actively participate in college programs—both inside and outside the classroom. Upperclass students, called Junior Fellows, live on the halls with members of the Residential Colleges and help plan activities, such as: - The Arts College visited Philadelphia's museums and theatre, and participated in acting and music workshops.
- The Environmental College attended the Econference in Washington, D.C., and hosted environmental speakers on campus.
- The Global College visited New York to tour the United Nations and participated in cultural events on campus.
- The Humanities College visited New York City to see the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cloisters Museum, and the award-winning Broadway show "Rent".
- The Social Justice College visited the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. and was instrumental in organizing the "Stop the Hate" march on campus.
- The Society and Technology College visited the Potomac Institute in Washington, D.C. to explore issues of terrorism and hosted speaker Don Kraybill to discuss Amish culture.
