Bucknell to commemorate September 11 with reflection, community service

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell University will commemorate the events of Sept. 11, 2001, with several events, beginning with a Day of Remembrance Moment of Reflection, led by The Rev. Thomasina Yuille, at 8:40 a.m. in front of the Christy Mathewson Gates near the stadium. The rain location is Rooke Chapel.
The Bucknell University Conservatives Club will sponsor a Day of Remembrance Flag Display on the uphill side of the Elaine Langone Center.
The day's events will close with a Day of Remembrance Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on the uphill side of the Elaine Langone Center. Bucknell President Brian C. Mitchell and Voices of September 11th intern Nicholas Scilingo '10 will give remarks, and the a cappella group Beyond Unison will perform. The rain location is the Elaine Langone Center.
Weeklong community service
Bucknell students also will participate in community service projects as part of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, which recognizes Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
"During the week of Sept. 11 to 20, Bucknell students have volunteered to help with a number of local projects," said Poppy Goforth, director of community service at Bucknell.
"These projects include working on the gardens at the Donald Heiter Community Center, putting up shelves, moving furniture and cleaning at the Lewisburg Co-Op, hosting a TGIF party for youth at the Milton YMCA, setting up for the book sale at the Priestley-Forsythe Memorial Library in Northumberland, and weeding and harvesting at the Dreamcatcher Farm."Contact: Division of Communications
