Homecoming 2009
Bucknell University celebrated several milestones during its annual Homecoming celebration Oct. 22-25, including a commemoration of 125 years of co-education, the 25th anniversary of the international relations program and the 10th anniversary of the Bucknell Brigade.
Three Bucknellians were honored with alumni awards. Harvey Edwards, Class of '78, who teaches English and humanities at Selinsgrove High School, received the Distinguished Citizenship Award. Film and television director Robert Mandel, Class of '67, received the Association for the Arts Academy of Artistic Achievement Award. The Bucknell Engineering Alumni Association Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award was awarded posthumously to Robert Long, Class of '58.
Six Bison student-athlete alumni representing six different sports were elected to the Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame. Sara Den Besten Collins, from the Class of 1996, became the very first Hall of Fame inductee from the sport of women's rowing, and she was joined by football All-American Tom Alexander '62, lacrosse All-American Rodney Brown '83, wrestling All-American Tom Marchetti '91, volleyball star Melissa Wharton '98 and standout softball catcher Jennifer Yuengling '93. The Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1979 to honor the very best in the history of Bison athletics.
