At the Campus Theatre, lingerie is no longer relegated to the bedroom. So boys, pull on your tights and get ready to strut your stuff in style! Ladies, break out those corsets and show everyone what you've got!
For those of you who have never heard of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," it is a cult classic film that goes above and beyond its title. The film is a musical, cross-dressing, science fiction extravaganza full of everything from aliens to virgins and anything in between.
"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is more than just a film; it is an experience. Showings take place all over the country, traditionally at midnight, and oftentimes include a cast of actors who each play the part of a different character from the movie in front of the screen. More elaborate companies have set pieces and props to add to the experience. The actors mouth the words along with the characters in the film and often add exaggerated gestures for comedic effect.
The showing at Campus Theatre may not have live actors, but it does have the most important part of a true "Rocky Horror" experience: callbacks. Part of the popular appeal of the film event is the audience participation. Audience members are encouraged to shout a series of predetermined responses, called callbacks, at the screen as the movie plays. These responses are often even funnier than the movie itself, which parodies science fiction and horror classic movies.
People learn these responses by attending the show a few times and picking up what other audience members shout out. This creates a true community feel between long-time attendees and first-timers. So, whether you will be leading the callbacks or learning how to get involved, the show is guaranteed to be a fabulous time.
"The Rocky Horror Picture Show"- playing at Campus Theatre-will take place at 11 p.m. tonight. Doors open at 10 p.m. and there will be a costume contest with prizes. Tickets are $10 and are on sale now. Don't forget your garters!
