The Brawley Fund 

The purpose of the E.M. Brawley Fund is to provide monies to underwrite a range of student activities, which includes but is not limited to: tutorials, workshops, research opportunities, internships, and discretionary funds that will assiststudents who have been historically underrepresented in these activities.

Brawley came to Bucknell on the advice of Rev. B. Griffith, D.D., and Mrs. Griffith who gave him a scholarship. He supported himself by teaching vocal music to the students and others, and by preaching. When he graduated in 1875, Bucknell’s first African American Student, he was ordained a minister by a council vote of the white Baptist church in Lewisburg where he had been preparing.

Undergraduate Summer Research Program
The Bucknell Program for Undergraduate Research is a University-wide program providing summer stipends to students to conduct research with faculty mentors. Stipends are awarded on a competitive basis by a faculty advisory committee representing all of Bucknell's academic divisions. The advisory committee invites proposals that reflect the broad goals of the Program for Undergraduate Research: ...to expand opportunities for students and faculty to participate in collaborative learning processes designed to dissolve the distinction between teaching and research, and to create a community of learners in which scholarship serves as the basis for teaching and learning.
