John F. Zeller Award
Purpose
Named in honor of John F. Zeller, former Vice President for Business and Fiscal Affairs and General Counsel Emeritus, the Zeller Award recognizes a member of the support staff who demonstrates consistent excellence in the conduct of their responsibilities. Recipients of this award exemplify the outstanding contributions made by many support staff over the course of their careers at Bucknell.
Eligibility
Any full time and part time support staff member that has at least two years of service to the University is eligible for award consideration. Staff members that have previously won the award are not eligible. Staff members that have previously been nominated, but did not win the award, can have their name resubmitted for consideration in the following year.
Nomination Process
Complete the Zeller Award Nomination Form and submit to Human Resources. Once received, nominations will be reviewed by the Support Staff Personnel Committee (SSPC). The SSPC will present a slate of five unranked finalists to the University Policy Group (UPG), who will make the final selection.
Submissions will not be final until a Nomination Form has been completed. Supplemental materials, such as additional information on contributions or letters of support, may be submitted along with the Nomination Form.
Award Criteria
The Zeller Award will honor those that have demonstrated consistent excellence in both their exceptional contributions to Bucknell and their professionalism in working with others in their day to day work. The Bucknell core competencies serve as the foundation for the award criteria. Each nomination should include specific examples of how the nominee has consistently demonstrated one or more of the core competencies in their role at Bucknell.
Bucknell Core Competencies
1. Commitment to Service and Quality: Keeps the community (i.e., students, parents, alumni, friends of Bucknell, employees, etc.) as the focal point of all activity; strives to address community needs and concerns. Commitment to continuous improvement of University practices and to assuring that completed work adheres to high standards of accuracy and excellence.
2. Stewardship: Demonstrates an understanding between one’s own job responsibilities and overall University goals and needs, and performs one’s job with the broader goals of the University in mind.
3. Initiative: Originates actions to influence events and to achieve goals; looks for opportunities to exceed expectations and acts on them.
4. Adaptability & Creativity: Proactively seeks new skills, behaviors, and knowledge to increase individual and group success. Changes style, method, approach or direction in response to changing conditions and situations, while employing original or novel ideas.

6. Diversity: Seeks to optimize the unique contribution inherent in the culture, ethnicity, gender, age, etc. of each individual.

9. Empowering People: Interacts with others in a manner that builds their confidence and independent capabilities. Take a variety of actions that challenge and support staff members to learn and grow from their experiences. Helps others increase capabilities, maximize potential and recognize options.
10. Teamwork: Willingly cooperates and works collaboratively with others to achieve collective results that accomplish organizational objectives
