Volunteering Opportunities
Lending time and talent for a stronger Bucknell
As a Bucknell parent, you can raise awareness of the University daily in your community. At your job, your place of worship, and with friends and family, you can be a real ambassador for Bucknell just by sharing your child's experience with others.
Here are some other ways to get involved.
Bucknell Parents Association
All current Bucknell parents are members of the Parents Association. Membership includes the monthly Bucknell Family Connection e-newsletter, a subscription to Bucknell Magazine, and invitations to Bucknell Club events. Visit www.bucknell.edu to learn more about events in your area.
Parents Association Board of Directors
The Parents Board manages the affairs of the Association and consists of 90 current parents who reflect the diversity of the student body. Members are selected by the Executive Committee of the Parents Board. For information, please contact the Office of the Parents Fund and Family Programs at 570-577-3687 or parents@bucknell.edu.
Parent Fund Volunteers, Office of the Parents Fund
Parents of current students and alumni contact other Bucknell parents annually to invite them to support the Parents Fund. These volunteers play a vital role for the University by soliciting annual gifts that enhance the Bucknell experience for all students. The Bucknell Parents Fund is nationally known for its success and consistently raises $1.5 million every year for current operating expenses. To learn more, please contact the Office of the Parents Fund and Family Programs at 570-577-3687 or parents@bucknell.edu.
First-Year Family Welcome Call Program
A comprehensive outreach activity for new families, coordinated by members of the Parents Association Board of Directors and parent volunteers. Current Bucknell parents offer a friendly connection by placing a call to the parents of incoming first-year students. For more information, please contact the Office of the Parents Fund and Family Programs at 570-577-3687 or parents@bucknell.edu.
CareerConnections at the Career Development Center
CareerConnections is the CDC's volunteer program. There are six ways Bucknell parents and alumni can volunteer. To get involved, complete the CDC volunteer online form. You may also contact the Career Development Center at 570-577-1238 or cdc@bucknell.edu to learn more.
Career Advice
Alumni and Parents talk with Bucknellians about their careers and the organizations they work for. Parents can provide students with valuable information about possible future careers and particular jobs - a typical work day, special training needed, industry trends, and more.
Career Education Programs
Alumni and parents serve as a panelists or keynote speakers to facilitate job search and career conversations at Bucknell.
Career Networking Programs
Alumni and parents facilitate conversations with students by participating in industry-focused networking programs or career fairs (both on and off campus).
Externships
Alumni, parents, and friends of the University sponsor two-day career shadowing experiences for Bucknell sophomores. An externship consists of two consecutive days shadowing a sponsor, who provides the student with as much exposure to the profession, workplace setting, and role as possible. Most externships take place during winter break.
Internships and Jobs
Alumni and parents offer summer internships or full-time job opportunities publicized to Bucknell
students. Participating employers collect resumes and schedule a follow-up interview (on campus or on site), or post online job listings for students who will contact employers directly to learn more.
Bucknell Public Interest Program (BPIP)
The BPIP Internship Fund provides financial support for selected undergraduates who have secured a full-time summer internship with a non-profit, governmental, or public interest organization in which no compensation is provided. BPIP's goal is to educate students about non-profit careers and provide more opportunities for students to learn about nonprofit organizations.
