LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Bucknell Dance Company will host its annual Spring Dance Concert April 30 and May 1 at 8 p.m. in the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University.
The concert will feature a mix of jazz, ballet and modern dance, with original choreography by guest artists Michael Yasenak and Cathy Young, as well as Matthew Neenan, artistic director of Ballet X.
The program includes new work fusing a variety of techniques by faculty choreographers Er-Dong Hu and Kelly Knox, and student choreographers Abbie Dearman and Kelsey Tangel. Dearman is a senior majoring in elementary education, and Tangel is a junior majoring in psychology.
Knox, who is an assistant professor of dance at Bucknell, will present original choreography featuring the five graduating seniors of the Bucknell Dance Company.
Hu, who is an associate professor of dance and director of the concert, will share with the audience a colorful, celebrational Chinese production incorporating traditional Chinese folk dance and props.
Hu's piece also will display the talents of guest performers and Bucknell professors Knox, Dustyn Martincich and Bob Gainer. Martincich is an assistant professor of theater and dance, and Gainer is a professor emeritus of theater and dance.
"The talent, technique, and emotional quality that the dancers exhibit along with the use of a wide variety of choreographic vocabulary is stunning," said Hu.
The concert will feature costume designs by Paula Denise Davis, associate professor of theater and dance; Pam Miller, costume shop manager; Alizon Baretsky, costume design intern; and Breanna Eckley, a senior majoring in theater.
