2003-2004 Annual ReportBucknell continues to attract better students each year. Several new records were set with this year’s entering Class of 2008. 8,324 students applied for 915 positions in the Class of 2008. This was the largest applicant pool ever and an 8 percent increase over last year. The acceptance rate continued to improve, with only 36.4 percent of the applicants accepted this year compared to 38.3 percent in 2003. The average SAT scores continued to climb, moving from 1299 last year to 1303 this year.
The university continues to enhance the diversity of the student body as well, attracting a record enrollment of 28 international students in the Class of 2008, along with 15 percent of the incoming students who identify themselves as members of minority groups. In addition, Bucknell continues to attract increasing numbers of students from different areas of the United States, from different religions, and different socio-economic backgrounds. Financial aid has become more and more important in attracting students to Bucknell. About 63 percent of the Class of 2008 receives some form of financial aid, including $7.4 million in Bucknell scholarships, $1.5 million in other forms of grants, $2 million in student loans, and $300,000 in campus employment. Bucknell recently developed a new scholarship program that includes a limited number of merit scholarships.
