As vice president for enrollment management, Kurt Thiede is responsible for leading and coordinating the student recruitment, admissions, financial aid, registrar, retention, and pre-college summer programs at Bucknell. Thiede reports directly to the president and is an integral part of the University's administrative team. Prior to arriving at Bucknell in February 2002, Thiede worked as an independent consultant focusing on strategic planning and operational issues related to higher education enrollment management and marketing. Prior to his five-year career in consulting, Thiede was vice president for enrollment and student life/dean of campus life at Muhlenberg College from 1987 to 1997. Arriving at Muhlenberg in 1979, he was dean of admissions and financial aid from 1983 to 1987. Thiede received his M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Vermont in 1979. His undergraduate degree is in Interdisciplinary Philosophy from Barrington College in Rhode Island (now merged with Gordon College in Massachusetts) where he graduated summa cum laude in 1975. He is a 1993 alumnus of the Harvard Institute of Educational Management. His wife, Laura (Hathaway) Thiede, graduated from Bucknell in 1978 and earned her master's from the University in 1980. They have two teen-age children, Sara and Brian. | |
