August 25 - October 3, 2010
This exhibition presents a diverse array of fine works of art, from historic to modern and contemporary and in wide variety of media. Rather than being thematic, the purpose is to present works of art that address many themes, issues and ideas, and serve as a resource to academic disciplines across the university.
Many works on view are recent acquisitions. Some have been in the collection for some time but have seldom if ever been exhibited before. Others were part of temporary exhibitions a number of years ago. Together, the art in "An Academic Resource" makes accessible selected highlights from the permanent collection for the university and regional communities.
The Permanent Collection consists of over 5,250 objects, from classical antiquity to works created in the 21st century. The Samek Art Gallery is a lab and its temporary exhibitions and Permanent Collection are the research fields. The Samek staff, who provide direct access to works of art, make this university resource an integral part of the intellectual and cultural life of Bucknell University and the region.
