Our Mission: It is our goal to help ensure a safe and peaceful setting in which to learn, work or visit. The Bucknell Department of Public Safety provides 24 hour/day, 365 day/year campus patrol and emergency response, alarm monitoring, traffic and parking enforcement, criminal investigations and community outreach, along with many other University-specific duties. Our officers conduct patrols on foot, on bicycle and in marked and unmarked patrol vehicles in order to enforce university policy, rules and regulations, state laws and local ordinances. In addition to performing preventive patrol tasks, the department seeks to reduce crime by offering a variety of programs designed to educate members of our campus community on risks to personal safety and property. Our Authority: The Department of Public Safety at Bucknell University is a campus safety and security department granted police and arrest powers on university property by the Union County Court of Common Pleas upon petition of the university. The authority for the establishment of the Department of Public Safety is contained in the Pennsylvania Statutes, Title 22, Section 501, The Detectives and Private Police Act. Is the Campus Safe? In a word, yes; while unfortunate things can happen anywhere, the campus of Bucknell University is both a beautiful and generally safe place to attend classes, to work or to visit.
