Mechanical Engineering: Visiting Faculty Position(s)

The Mechanical Engineering Department at Bucknell University invites applications for one or more open-rank visiting faculty positions to begin August 2013. The position(s) may be extended beyond one year; reappointment would be subject to need and satisfactory performance.

Bucknell is a highly selective, predominately undergraduate, private university with approximately 3400 students enrolled in the Colleges of Arts & Sciences and Engineering. The Mechanical Engineering Department has a planned enrollment of about 180 students, and 16 tenure-track faculty.

We anticipate the need for faculty with teaching ability in dynamics, manufacturing, solid mechanics, mechanical design, and the thermal-fluids sciences. Computer-based design expertise in any of these areas would be advantageous. We seek individuals with enthusiasm for teaching and the ability to communicate complex technical topics to students. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach a broad range of mechanical engineering subjects, have the potential to instruct in a hands-on laboratory environment, and have familiarity with basic instrumentation.

The successful candidate(s) should have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering (or a closely related discipline) and, preferably, an ABET-accredited undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent); however, ABD candidates will also be considered. Clear evidence of the potential for teaching excellence is essential, and a strong interest in continued professional development is encouraged and desirable. Candidates with an interest in and potential for teaching and interacting effectively with students having diverse backgrounds and perspectives are particularly encouraged to apply.

Bucknell University values a diverse college community and is committed to excellence through diversity in its faculty, staff, and students. Bucknell University encourages applications from women and minority groups.

Application materials include a CV, teaching philosophy, your scholarly interests and three letters of recommendation. For additional information and to apply, please go to http://jobs.bucknell.edu. Review of applications will begin on February 15, 2013 and continue until the positions are filled.
