Medical Emergencies Involving Bloodborne Pathogens
This is the proper response procedure for handling persons who are injured or ill, or situations requiring medical attention or post-medical emergency response or cleanup.
University staff are not required to administer hands-on care to injured persons on campus or respond to medical emergencies unless they have been trained specifically to do so. To limit your exposure to another person's body fluids in an emergency, you should contact Public Safety for assistance immediately at 570-577-1111, anytime day or night. To determine whether or not a particular situation or medical emergency requires specialized response or special cleanup procedures, beyond the training and instructions you have received, you should also contact Public Safety immediately.
Public Safety officers are trained to assess such situations and process them or, to advise you accordingly. Public Safety will also advise you as to how you may proceed or arrange for special handling of the situation, if necessary.
