Campus Theatre interior: Close up of muralIn early February, a $ 2.5 rehabilitation project began on the Campus Theatre. The official Campus Theatre Opening and Street Festival celebrates the completion of the renovations and the reopening of the downtown landmark. Lewisburg's Campus Theatre is one of a handful of art deco theaters built in the early 1940s that still remains in operation.

The renovation project included installing new air-conditioning and heating systems, adding a more prominent concession stand and larger and more comfortable seats, and installing new sprinklers, lighting and carpet. The stage was enlarged and the theatre is now handicap accessible. New sidewalks were also constructed outside.

The project also included preservation of the precious works of art on the theatre walls. John Hartmann '79, was commissioned to conserve the murals, decorative ceilings and walls and to uncover the original paint colors in the Campus Theatre.

The official Campus Theatre Opening and Street Festival is a family-friendly event, open to the community, which will happen on Market Street and the M&T Bank parking lot. For more information about the renovations, reopening, and celebration, see the new Campus Theatre website.
