Campus reopens, classes resume on Friday, September 9, 2011

After careful assessment of the flooding conditions downtown and on campus, and barring any further severe rains tonight -- which are not expected -- campus will be open tomorrow and classes will be in session. If the situation changes, we will make an announcement accordingly.
Please note:
- Students should plan on attending classes as usual tomorrow unless they are informed directly that particular classes have been cancelled.
- We know faculty will be understanding if accommodations must be made for students absolutely unable to attend a class due to the storm, as approximately 1000 students are not sleeping in their own beds this evening. Students should contact their faculty directly.
- For some faculty, teaching classes tomorrow will not be possible due to the storm's impact. Faculty will be using their judgment about the safety of travel to campus. If changes to the class schedule are necessary, faculty will work with their program or department chair to either have a colleague teach the class instead or inform students if a class is canceled. Should individual situations warrant it, faculty have the option of canceling classes and labs on an individual basis, and of scheduling make-up sessions.
We are optimistic that by tomorrow students who had to vacate the three affected residence halls (Vedder, Harris and Larison) will be able to return to their rooms. Through the weekend, we will continue to accommodate on campus any students from downtown residences that were affected by the storm, and will be contacting them tomorrow with detailed information about further efforts to assist them in the coming weeks until severely impacted downtown homes return to habitability.
