Ballet Memphis at Weis Center

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Ballet Memphis will perform at the Weis Center at Bucknell University Friday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m.
Ballet Memphis is recognized as a leader among the country's outstanding regional ballet companies. Founded 25 years ago by Dorothy Gunther Pugh, the troupe has been called "a national treasure" by the Ford Foundation.
The company has performed in cities nationwide, including the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts.
"Ballet Memphis has brought its decidedly unique — and always highly praised — perspective to every corner of the world and now they'll be sharing their artistry to central Pennsylvania audiences," said Kathryn Maguet, executive director of the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell.
"From contemporary works to reinterpretations of the classics, this company is fresh, daring, technically stunning and inspiring," she said.
One of the highlights of the evening's program is "In Dreams" which honors Memphis' musical heritage. Choreographed by Trey McIntyre and performed to the expressive voice of Roy Orbison, "In Dreams" is a sometimes dark, always passionate, journey through six of the legendary singer's most popular songs including "Dream Baby" and "Crying."
The company performs at the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Memphis, in non-traditional venues, and on tour and performs for and presents teaching sessions to more than 15,000 students annually.

Advance tickets are available in person from several locations including the Weis Center lobby weekdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the Barnes & Noble at Bucknell University bookstore in Lewisburg weekdays and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, 12:30 to 4 p.m.; and the CAPS Center Box Office, located on the ground floor of the Elaine Langone Center, weekdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets also may be purchased one hour prior to each performance.
The next performance in the Weis Center series is a concert by pianist Jenny Lin on Nov. 12. Lin will perform Bach and Shostakovich: preludes and fugues. Tickets for the Nov. 12 event are $20.
