Dr. Marie Shaw, Ph.D.
Marie received her Ph.D. in counseling Psychology from the University of Tennessee. Marie utilizes an integrative approach in which she adapts to meet each client's individual needs. She seeks to understand each client's unique worldview that guides their beliefs about themselves, others, and the world. She considers the therapeutic relationship to be a valuable tool and tries to provide a safe, collaborative, and empowering relationship. She tries to do this by being genuinely empathic and balancing challenge and support. Throughout the therapy process, she hopes to empower clients to recognize and use their strengths.
Marie has been trained as a generalist, but has specific interest and experience in working with trauma, body image and eating disorders, LGBTQ population, and interpersonal issues. In addition to being a psychologist, Marie is also a sport psychology consultant. She has training and experience working with student-athletes on performance enhancement, as well as clinical concerns.
