Update: After graduation, Kate will take the CPA exam. At the end of August, she will begin working as an auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Pittsburgh.

"I was a sophomore and had just declared a major in accounting when my professor invited my accounting class to compete in a PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) case competition.

"There's currently a dilemma in the accounting world. Most of the world except the U.S. follows International Financial Reporting Standards. PwC wanted us to recommend how the U.S. should adapt to these standards. I had to become somewhat of an expert on the topic.

"My team won the Bucknell competition and got to go to New York as national finalists. Even though we didn't win that national competition, I learned how important teamwork and creativity are to the process."

Kate is from Pittsburgh, Pa.
