Emergencies and Transportation
NOTE: In Case of Serious Illness or Injury:
- Dial 71111 from campus phone or dial 570-577-1111 for Public Safety and give specific details or dial 911.
- If the medical emergency appears "life threatening," request that an ambulance be summoned.
- If the medical emergency does not appear "life threatening," request that medical assistance be provided by the Student Health Service. When the Ziegler Health Center is closed, a student requiring medical care should go to the emergency room at Evangelical Community Hospital (570-522-2640). If transportation is needed call the Department of Public Safety at 71111 from campus phone or dial 570-577-1111 for transportation assistance.
- Sexual Assault: For confidential assistance, call the Bucknell University 24 hour Sexual Assault Survivor Advocate at 570-850-6115, or call Public Safety at 570-577-1111, or Student Health Service at 570-577-1401.
Emergencies that originate on campus during the hours when the Student Health Service is open will be given prompt attention.
If illness should occur during the hours when the Student Health Service is open, the student should go to Ziegler Health Center where appropriate treatment will be rendered.
If the student is unable to walk to the health center, the health center vehicle, operated by selected student drivers, may be dispatched at the discretion of the nurse. Students who need this assistance should call the Student Health Service 71401 from on campus phone or dial 570-577-1401 to request transportation when necessary.
The Student Health Service provides transportation to Evangelical Community Hospital, other referral sources and local pharmacies at regularly scheduled times Monday through Friday (and weekends as needed). Students may register for these trips either in person or by phone 570-577-1401. Registration for this service is required.
In case of a minor accident when the health center is open, the injured student should be taken to the Ziegler Health Center if he/she may be safely moved. If it seems inadvisable to move him/her, call the nurse at the Ziegler Health Center for instructions. If hospital or emergency treatment beyond that provided at the health center is indicated, the student will be referred by the health center for proper treatment.
