Health Care Coverage and Billing Information
The Student Health Service does not charge for its professional services, and we do not file insurance claims. However, there may be times when your insurance coverage is needed for:
- Medical services performed at our local hospital, such as x-rays or lab tests;
- Blood tests drawn at SHS by a phlebotomist from Evangelical Hospital;
- Medical services performed by local specialists;
- Emergency room visits;
- Prescriptions that are filled by local pharmacies.
These services are billed to your insurance by the entity providing the service. Therefore, it is important you are familiar with your health insurance plan:
- Do you have your insurance card?
- Do you know what your health insurance covers?
- Does your insurance company require precertification prior to having medical testing?
- Do you have a prescription co-pay?
For your convenience, Student Health has a small pharmacy with an inventory of the most prescribed medications. If you choose to have your prescription filled by us, you may pay by cash, check, or have the cost charged to your Bucknell student account. These charges will show on your monthly statement. You will be given receipts that you should use to turn in to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Student Health can also provide certain immunizations, which are also paid by cash, check, or charged to your student account.
