Internships work

Internships offer the opportunity to combine classroom learning with practical, hands-on experience in the working world. Most internships provide an experience that allows students to learn about themselves, to explore their fields of study, and to test their career interests in a real-life situation.

A 2011 survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers found that internships remain integral to the college recruiting scene. The survey found that employers expected to increase internship hiring by about 7 percent this year and co-op positions by nearly 9 percent. Further, they expected to draw about 40 percent of their new college hires for 2011 from their internship and co-op programs.
