How do I get medications?
Some medications are dispensed at the Student Health Service without charge. Other prescriptions can be filled at the student's expense at the health service or at local pharmacies.
What About Costs?
There is no fee for physician visits at the SHS, and there is no limit to the number of visits students may make to Student Health.
Students need to be knowledgeable regarding their health insurance.
Students are responsible for knowing if pre-authorization is required for consults, lab tests, strep screens, x-rays, or procedures and for obtaining that authorization if required.
SHS does NOT bill insurance prescription plans. Students need to know if they have a prescription plan to use at a local pharmacy. They also need to have a copy of the presciption card and should know the co-pay costs.
Medications dispensed at SHS may be billed to the students' monthly Bucknell account or they may pay for medication by cash or check at the time of service.
Rapid strep screens and some other tests can be done at SHS for a nominal fee which may be charged to students' monthly Bucknell account, or paid by cash or check at the time of service.
Other strep screens and some lab tests including bloodwork obtained at SHS are sent to the local hospital for processing, therefore students' insurance will be billed for these tests.
Students' insurance will be billed for services provided by area hospitals or consultants.
