Cell Biology/Biochemistry Program
The Cell Biology/Biochemistry program is a synergy between the Chemistry and Biology departments at the University. The interdisciplinary nature of the program emphasizes critical thinking, problem solving skills, and laboratory experience. Students contemplating this major should have a passion for the biological and chemical sciences and very good science and mathematical preparation.
The recommended preparation for the Cell Biology/Biochemistry program includes high school courses in biology, chemistry, physics and pre-calculus. The most current information for prospective students interested in the program is available by contacting the program director. Students with specific research interests can also contact individual faculty members involved with the program. In recent years the program has graduated approximately 20 students each year. In the past two years, there has been a significant increase in the number of first year students enrolling in the Cell Biology/Biochemistry program. This number is likely to rise due to increased career opportunities in the biomedical sciences and the ever increasing demand for graduates with a strong background in biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology.
