LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell University will host nearly 4,000 visitors participating in about 40 conferences beginning May 30 through Aug. 4.

Bucknell-affiliated programs
Bucknell's annual Reunion Weekend will be held May 30 to June 2 with thousands of alumni and families returning to campus for the weekend activities.

Events of note that are open to the public include a Dinosaur Petting Zoo, a free kid-friendly interactive event, on Friday, May 31, at 5:30 p.m. in Hufnagle Park in Lewisburg, and on Saturday, June 1, at 2 p.m. on the lawn across from the Weis Center. Tickets are not required for the event, sponsored by the Weis Center for the Performing Arts.

Another highlight of the Reunion weekend gathering will be a free fireworks display Saturday, June 1, at 10:30 p.m. (weather permitting).

Spectators may view the fireworks from the Academic Quad in front of Bertrand Library. Parking will be available on the farm lot off Seventh Street via South Campus Drive or above the stadium. Dent Drive between Seventh Street and the stadium will be closed from 9 to 11:30 p.m.

The University's alumni summer guest program, which offers accommodation for alumni families in Bucknell West, is scheduled for June 8 through July 27.

The summer session will be held June 10 to July 19 for enrolled students as well as students participating in the Bucknell Community College programs.

Other Bucknell-sponsored conferences include WMS Regional Users June 9-11; Engineering Camp June 23-29; College Admissions Workshop June 27-28; Admissions: Shaping Your World, July 7-10; Summer Phonathon conference July 8-9; Technology Student Association July 8-9; E-3 Engineering workshop July 23-26; and a MERCURY undergraduate chemistry conference July 25-27. In addition, numerous students will participate in summer research programs June 2 through Aug. 3.

Students, faculty and visiting poets participating in the 29th annual Seminar for Younger Poets will read from their works during the seminar held June 9-30. Visiting poets Dan Beachy-Quick and Jean Valentine will join director G.C. Waldrep, associate director Deirdre O'Connor and Stadler Center Fellows Caroline Ebeid and Jamaal May.

Readings, which are free and open to the public, will be held in the Stadler Center for Poetry in Bucknell Hall. Waldrep, O'Connor, Ebeid and May will give an opening reading on June 11 at 7 p.m. Valentine will read with six of the Seminar Fellows on June 13 at 7 p.m. Beachy-Quick will read with six of the Seminar Fellows on June 21 at 7 p.m. The final reading with all 12 Seminar Fellows is scheduled for June 29 at 7 p.m.

Visiting programs
Visiting organizations include: Pennsylvania Kiwanis June 14-16; Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Youth Conference June 17-21; Mission U (formerly Schools of Christian Mission) July 11-14; PACAC July 14-16; and Renaissance Nutrition July 22-25.

Sports camps include: boys basketball team day June 8-9; Bison baseball day camp June 10-11; girls elite basketball prospect camp June 15-16; adult field hockey tournament June 15-16; girls basketball skills camp June 16-19; girls lacrosse June 17-19; boys basketball college prospects June 21-22; Bison football shoot-out 7on7 clinic June 22; boys basketball individual camp June 23-26; girls basketball team shootout June 30; water polo camp June 24-27 and June 29 - July 2; boys lacrosse July 1-3; wrestling camp July 7-10; boys soccer July 7-10 and July 12-15; cross country/track camp July 14-18; field hockey camp July 17-20; and boys baseball July 24-27.

The WSY Summer Long Course Classic will be held June 13-16, and the Mid-Atlantic Long Course championship will be held July 16-20 with teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware competing at Kinney Natatorium.

Football recruiting camp will be held June 23 and July 27. A wrestling dual meet/tournament is scheduled for July 6. A PIAA football officials clinic will be held July 21. A mini field hockey day camp will be held July 24-26. The Bucknell women's soccer summer ID and high school prep clinics will be held Aug. 3-4.

Cavalcade of Champions
The 10th annual Cavalcade of Champions drum and bugle corps competition will be held Saturday, July 6, at 7 p.m. in the Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium at Bucknell.

Reserved seats are $20 per person; general seats are $17. Advance tickets, which go on sale at 10 a.m. June 17, are available online from the Campus Box Office or in person at the campus box office in the Weis Center weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The box office opens at 5 p.m. on July 6; stadium gates open at 5:30.

Featured performers are the Bushwackers Drum and Bugle Corps, Princeton, N.J.; the Empire Statesmen Drum and Bugle Corps, Rochester, N.Y.; the Hawthorne Caballeros, Hawthorne, N.J.; the Sunrisers Drum and Bugle Corps, Brentwood, Long Island, N.Y. and the Windsor Regiment, West Windsor, N.J.

In addition, there will be a combined exhibition with the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps, Hawthorne, N.J., and the Preston Scout House Alumni Band, Ontario, Canada.

The summer conferences program at Bucknell University originated as a way to provide year-round employment to university staffs and offers a wide range of facilities in an educational and professional atmosphere.
