Bucknell has really pushed me in terms of my involvement outside the classroom. I was pretty shy in high school, but since coming here I've tried many new things that have helped me to interact with more people on campus.
"I chose Bucknell because of the strong student community. The minute I stepped onto campus, I knew that it was a perfect fit. I'm a sociology major and an economics and creative writing double minor, and I feel that Bucknell has given me the opportunity to have a wide range of studies.
"So far my favorite class has been the Writers Voice Foundation Seminar with Professor Katie Hays. It was the first creative writing class that I've ever taken and it gave me the chance to improve my writing skills, as well as to develop my creative abilities. Professor Hays was so engaging and always open to talk. That openness is what gave me the confidence to do things I had never done before.
"This past summer I interned for the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team, working on basketball statistics. I was able to take the skills I developed from being a sports writer for The Bucknellian [student newspaper] and put them to use in the professional world. I absolutely loved it. I got to work at the Wells Fargo Center where the team actually plays, which was a surreal experience.
