SBDC celebrates 50th Annual National Small Business Week
Posted: June 10, 2013
LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Bucknell University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will join the Small Business Administration in celebrating the 50th Annual National Small Business Week June 17 to 21.
More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year. The celebration recognizes the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs who work every day to grow small businesses, create 21st century jobs, drive innovation, and increase America's global competitiveness.
To expand the reach of its services to small businesses during this week, the SBDC will partner with Rep. Lynda Schlegel-Culver at her Sunbury office to provide entrepreneurs with free and confidential consulting services and information. Assistance will be available Monday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 106 Arch St. in Sunbury. Appointments are required and must be scheduled prior to the meeting date.
To date in 2013, the SBDC has helped 14 entrepreneurs start new business, including a private medical practice, several e-commerce sites, and a venture launched by a team of Bucknell students.
Educational programs and events coming up in the summer include a new five-part Social Media Marketing lunch seminar series starting in late June. Topics will include how to use blogs, Twitter and Facebook to engage with customers and promote your business.
In July, the SBDC will launch Product Innovation Workshops designed to help manufacturers and product designers identify and pursue opportunities for product and market development.
Bucknell's center was the first in the nation to be hosted by a College of Engineering and attendees at these innovation workshops will meet and work with representatives and student consultants from the center's specialty Engineering Development Services.
