Athletics and Recreation Center Access and User Policies

R.I.C.S.

The Athletics and Recreation Center is a student-centered facility that encompasses wellness, recreation and athletics in a collegiate environment.

 

Our multi-use facility allows members to get fit in any way they choose.  Whether exercising along, using our cardiovascular equipment, extensive weight area, indoor pool, or in a group atmosphere playing basketball, volleyball, or participating in aerobics classes, we have what it takes to meet all your fitness needs.

 

Athletics and Recreation Center memberships are also a great value, since there are no hidden costs in the form of racquet sport fees or aerobic class fees.

 

Eligible Users

 

• Students currently registered in undergraduate and graduate courses of study with a valid Bucknell ID.

 

• Faculty/staff, spouses/spousal equivalent and dependants under the age of 18 with valid Bucknell University ID.

 

• Part-time faculty/adjunct professors, staff, spouses/spousal equivalent, and their dependant children over 12 years of age who hold a valid Bucknell ID for the period of their employment.  Children under 12 may use the facilities, except the fitness center, if they are accompanied and actively supervised by an adult.  Due to safety and risk management issues, children under the age of 12 are not permitted to enter or loiter in the Krebs Fitness Center, Berger Strength Training Center or to use cardiovascular or strength training equipment.

 

• Bucknell retirees who hold a valid Bucknell ID.

 

• Bucknell alumni who hold a valid Athletics and Recreation Center membership.

 

• Local community members who hold a valid Athletics and Recreation Center membership.

 

• Bison Club members who have donated at the Christy Mathewson Committee of One Thousand level or above will be able to purchase a membership.

 

• Memberships are available on an annual basis.  Mid year memberships are prorated.

 

• Any existing lifetime memberships as of 2003 will be honored.  Access to the facility for lifetime members is restricted to 6am to 11am Monday through Friday and unrestricted on the weekends.  Unlimited use Enhanced lifetime memberships may be upgraded for $250.00 per year.

 

• Community memberships may be limited by the facilities capacity as determined by the Department of Athletics and Recreation.

Membership Fees

 

Students, faculty, staff, part-time faculty, spouses/spousal equivalent and dependants of Bucknell University employees under the age of 18 are automatically granted memberships to the facility at no cost.

*  Guests must be accompanied by an Athletics and Recreation Center Member at all times.

 

*Guest fees are waived during the following Open House weekends:  Reunion Weekend, Parents Weekend, Siblings

  Weekend, Homecoming and Commencement Weekend.

 

 

 

Equipment Check-Out

 

Any member of the Bucknell University community with a valid ID may borrow equipment free of charge.  Equipment includes everything from volleyball nets to racquets and balls.  Equipment may be checked out at the front desk.

 

 

 

Instructional Programs

 

A wide variety of noncredit programs are offered for the enrichment of students, faculty, staff and their families,  The programs are first offered to students, faculty, staff and their families.  Community members may participate in these programs on a space available basis. 

 

 

 

Facility Rules

 

Since the Kenneth G. Langone Athletics and Recreation Center is a student based facility, scheduling to accommodate Bucknell University students, Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services will take priority.

 

• All members must show a proper Bucknell University ID upon entering the Athletics and Recreation Center.

• Bikes, rollerblades, skateboard, etc. are prohibited in the building and on the outdoor courts.

• Members are not to open any doors.  Failure to adhere to this rule will result in the loss of membership privileges.

• Food and drink is permitted in designated areas only.

• Proper attire must be worn at all times (i.e., full t-shirts and shorts).  Cut offs, tank tops and cropped shirts are not permitted.

• Proper footwear is required at all times.

• Use of tobacco products is not permitted at any time.

• Varsity locker rooms and instructional weight rooms are for the use of Bucknell varsity athletes and are not included in any membership.

• Participation and use of all facilities is at your own risk.

 

 

 

Cardiovascular Machines and Weight Room Rules

 

• Athletic shoes are required at all times.

• Shirts must be worn at all times.

• Cardiovascular machines are to be used for a maximum of 30 minutes.

• Allow circuit users to work in.

• Please clean machines when finished.

• Replace all plates, dumbbells and bars to their proper rack when done using them.

• Please follow all posted weight room rules.

 

Kinney Natatorium

 

• Proper swimming attire must be worn at all times.

• No food or drinking is permitted in the pool or on the pool deck.

• No running on the pool deck.

• The Natatorium is only opened during recreational swim hours for members.

• Use of diving boards is not permitted.  Deck level diving is only permitted in the deep end (8 feet or deeper) of the pool.

 

 

Davis Gym

 

• Non-marking athletic shoes are required at all times.

• No food or drinking is permitted in or on the courts.

• Courts may not be reserved.

 

 

Tennis Courts (Indoor and Outdoor)

 

• Non-marketing athletic shoes are required at all times.

• Courts cannot be reserved consecutively under the same name.

• Reservations are for one-hour time blocks, starting on the hour.

• Reserved courts not claimed within 10 minutes will be given to other players.

• No food or drink is permitted in or on the courts.

 

 

Racquetball/Squash Courts

 

• Proper eyewear is highly recommended.

• Non-marking athletic shoes are required at all times.

• Courts cannot be reserved consecutively under the same name.

• Reservations are for one-hour time blocks starting on the hour.

• Reserved courts not claimed within 10 minutes will be given to other players.

• No food or drink is permitted in or on the courts.

 

 

Sauna and Steam Room

 

• Sauna and Steam room are co-ed.

• Proper clothing must be worn at all times.

• Members should limit themselves to 20 minutes.

• No one under the age of 12 is permitted in the Sauna or Steam room.

 

 

Climbing Wall

 

• No free climbing of the wall.

• Proper shoes must be worn at all times.

• Children under the age of 6 are not permitted in the climbing wall.

• No food or drink is permitted in the climbing wall.

 

Violation of policies could lead to a person/s being asked to leave and possible loss of membership privileges.  Members are encouraged to report violations to the Athletics and Recreation Center Starr.
