Set against the backdrop of Boston's skyline, 33 stories above the heart of the historic city's downtown, nearly 350 Bucknellians were treated to an evening of friendly faces, food and fun.
"I have really been looking forward to this event," Kevin Bettencourt '06 said. "This is a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and catch up with Bucknellians I haven't seen in awhile. I'm really enjoying this time with them."
The event, which spanned two floors in Boston's 60 State Street skyscraper, gave attendees a closeup view of what the University is striving to become through the WE DO Campaign.
Similar to the public launch of the campaign last October, the WE DO Tour stop in Boston featured interactive spaces highlighting the work of faculty and students, Bucknell President John Bravman's Q&A with students, faculty "snap talks" centered around their research and creative work with students, and a firsthand look at the WE DO Campaign Initiatives.
"I am thrilled and inspired by being here," said Pris Davis '61. "It is a joy to see that Bucknell has grown and evolved into the place I always dreamed it would be."
Among the highlights of the evening was President Bravman's announcement of a seven-figure gift from Trustee Emeritus Joseph Ciffolillo '61 P'84. The gift will be used to invest in programs for student and faculty innovation within the health sciences.
Ciffolillo's gift also pushes the half-a-billion-dollar campaign to the cusp of $290 million raised. The campaign's priorities are increasing funding for scholarships and financial aid, strengthening residential learning, retaining and recruiting outstanding faculty and investing in new facilities.
"This campaign is about creating a better Bucknell, a Bucknell that will serve our students well for generations to come," Bravman said after the event. "The WE DO Tour is about alumni, parents and volunteers experiencing that message first-hand through our faculty and students and sharing the excitement of the possibilities that are now in front of Bucknell."
The WE DO Tour's next stop is on Nov. 16 in New York City at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel. Additional destinations will be announced in 2014. || Click here for more information.
