"Bucknell in" Programs
To complement your Bucknell experience, each year we offer a number of off-campus study programs led by Bucknell faculty. These programs offer Bucknell courses in a variety of disciplines in locations around the world, merging your abroad experience with your Bucknell studies. These programs often change each year depending on the faculty members leading them. For more information on specific programs, visit the program web site or speak with the program director!
The Bucknell in Barbados program presents Bucknell University students with an opportunity to enrich their educational experience through an intensive semester long study-abroad program administered by a Bucknell University professor-in-residence.
The program is held each spring semester at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI), about three miles from Barbados' capital, Bridgetown. Students participating in the Bucknell in Barbados program are required to enroll in four courses at UWI, of which, one is a required core course taught by the Bucknell University professor-in-residence.
Students may also choose from a wide variety of courses in humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and law. Up to three courses completed in the Bucknell in Barbados program may be counted toward satisfying the five course requirement for a minor in Caribbean Studies at Bucknell University.
Students may choose to substitute an unpaid internship to satisfy one of their elective course requirements. Internships are offered through several agencies and offer a wide variety of opportunities to Bucknell University students.
Bucknell en España
Bucknell en España is a cultural and linguistic immersion program for Bucknell University students who seek a high quality academic and residential experience in Spain for a semester or a full academic year.
The program is administered by a Bucknell University professor-in-residence who leads an orientation course and several excursions. The program is affiliated with the Universidad de Granada, one of the most highly regarded universities in Spain. Students will enroll in courses from a variety of disciplines at the universities Centro de Lenguas Modernas (CLM). Advanced students have the option to enroll directly in a course at the Universidad de Granada to complement their studies at the CLM. Students will live with a host family and will have open opportunities to participate in many extra-curricular activities organized by the university.
The program is located in the southern Andalusia city of Granada, located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and within an hours travel to the Costa del Sol on the Mediterranean Sea. Granada has a population of an estimated 250,000 - 350,000, and is known for is historical significance, as well as its monumental architecture.
The Bucknell en France program provides an opportunity for all Bucknell University students, regardless of their background in French or their major, to enrich their Bucknell University education by studying in France for an academic year or a semester.
The program is located in Tours, France; a prosperous, and culturally rich city of around 150,000 people, situated in the heart of France; 150 miles southwest of Paris in the Loire Valley.
Bucknell en France is administered by Bucknell University's French and Francophone Studies program faculty in cooperation wtih the Universite Francois Rabelais, a French University of 29,000 students. Each semester, ten to twenty Bucknell University students are accompanied by a Bucknell University professor-in-residence and supported by a permanent program coordinator in Tours. Students live with host families, take courses from a variety of disciplines, go on excursions, participate in cultural and athletic activities in the city, and travel independently during vacations.
The Bucknell in London program is a semester long interdisciplinary program offered every fall semester. The program is led and administered by two Bucknell University professors and usually one or two British academics and/or professionals.
The curricular agenda of the program varies from semester to semester consistent with the disciplines of the Bucknell University faculty leading the course. This combination of academic specializations creates a highly interdisciplinary program, ensuring a dynamic and exciting learning experience for Bucknell in London students.
In the past, focuses of the program have encompassed theater, literature, biology, music, history, and economics. As with all Bucknell in programs, students earn Bucknell University credit while abroad. Independent study and internships may be arranged with departmental permission.
