Graduate Studies in English

Program Director: Prof. Michael Drexler

The English department at Bucknell encourages collegial relationships between professors and graduate students, as well as among graduate students themselves. Bucknell’s Institute for the Humanities, the West Branch Poetry Festivals, the Bucknell Seminar for Younger Poets, and an extensive schedule of guest writers and lecturers enrich the program of study. Bucknell is home to a university press, and the journals West Branch and The Bucknell Review. Coursework is further enhanced by an excellent library, computer facilities, a writing center, and a rich offering of literary and critical publications. The graduate program in English offers the student a structure consisting of eight seminars in English or six seminars in English and two in other humanities disciplines. Seminars require active participation, student reports, oral and written, and a substantial paper. All seminars require the permission of the instructor.

The Bucknell M.A. in English is designed for

those who plan to pursue a Ph.D. or an M.F.A.

those who plan to teach in high school or community colleges
